This week, global leaders, policymakers, and innovators in accessible tourism have gathered in Turin, Italy, for the 3rd World Summit on Accessible Tourism, Destinations for All.

The event brings together voices from across continents, from tourism ministries and airlines to researchers and disability advocates, all working toward one shared vision: a world where everyone can travel, explore, and participate equally.
Yet, even as accessibility gains ground in travel infrastructure, one critical piece is still missing in too many destinations, fully equipped Changing Places facilities.
For people with complex physical disabilities, the availability of a Changing Places room is not a luxury. It is a basic condition for participation. Without accessible changing and toilet facilities, families, carers, and travellers are excluded from public life, from tourism experiences, and from the right to move freely in their communities.
Accessibility Is More Than Ramps and Signage
A truly accessible destination is one where everyone can take part, from arrival to departure.
Accessible rooms, transport, and attractions are essential, but without Changing Places facilities, access stops halfway.
These rooms provide enough space, height-adjustable benches, and ceiling hoists — enabling safe, dignified use for individuals who cannot use standard accessible toilets. They are fundamental to inclusion, not optional extras.
A Shared Responsibility
At Changing Places Nordic, we believe that building inclusive destinations is a collective effort. Municipalities, developers, and the wider tourism industry must collaborate to ensure that these vital facilities become a natural part of destination design and sustainability strategies.
This aligns directly with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly:
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Incorporating Changing Places facilities into the tourism landscape is a tangible, measurable step toward a more just and sustainable world, one that values equity as much as economy.
Looking Ahead: We Need Your Support
As global conversations on accessibility evolve, Changing Places Nordic must be present at the table.
Our mission is to ensure that the needs of people who require complex support are not overlooked in tourism planning, destination development, and policy discussions.
To continue representing this community, and to take part in future international conferences like Destinations for All, we rely on the engagement and partnership of the travel and tourism industry.
By supporting Changing Places Nordic, you help ensure that inclusion in tourism is not just a vision, but a reality.
